Man charged with DUI in Spring Garden Street hit-and-run was awaiting trial for another DUI

A man was charged today for allegedly broadsiding a car near the Spring Garden Street Bridge shortly after midnight Tuesday morning, then fleeing the scene on foot. A passenger in the car he allegedly hit, 52-year-old Sandra Lee, died at the hospital. Carl Frederock, 30, of the 800 block of North 66th Street in Overbrook, was arrested a short time later at 35th Street and Lancaster Avenue.

Frederock is charged with homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, DUI and causing an accident while being improperly licensed. In a separate set of charges brought against him the same day, he is accused of simple assault and reckless endangerment. Frederock was arraigned on all the offenses at 1:20 a.m. this morning and is currently jailed at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Frederock was already to set to go to trial on Oct. 30 for another DUI offense with which he was charged about two months before the accident, according to court documents. He was arraigned for those charges on Aug. 14 and released after posting an unspecified amount of bail.
