Man in custody after calling 911, claiming he killed girlfriend: Police

After receiving an emergency call from a man who claimed he just killed his girlfriend, police were able to locate the caller in his car and take him into custody.

Around 2:30 a.m. on Monday, authorities received a 911 call in which a man told dispatchers he had strangled his girlfriend in a Kensington home near the corner of Rorer and Willard streets, NBC10 reported.

When officers responded to the location, they found a woman dead of apparent strangulation and four children, ages 5, 8, 10 and 12, asleep inside the home, NBC10 added. The caller had left the scene.

Authorities, who had retrieved the vehicle information associated with the caller, stopped the man, 24, shortly before 5 a.m. as he was driving near the corner of Thompson and Cumberland streets in Port Richmond, CBS3 reported. His name has not been released.

The man was taken into custody without incident, according to 6ABC, which added that he was moved to Hahnemann University Hospital for evaluation.

The children inside the home were not hurt, 6ABC stated, adding that officials were in the process of placing them with relatives.

So far, it is unclear what the alleged killer’s motivation was, NBC10 stated.
