A viewing at a Camden funeral home turned into chaos Thursday night when the grandson of the deceased was shot to death on the street during the event.

Around 6:30 p.m., shots were fired outside May Funeral Home near Fourth and Walnut streets in Camden, resulting in the death of Jonathan Vazquez, 22, the Courier-Post reported. Inside, mourners were attending the viewing of his grandmother, Rosa Serrano.

“We was here at the viewing, and they killed my nephew out here tonight,” Serrano’s daughter, Christina Serrano, was quoted by 6ABC, which added that Vazquez was shot between eight and ten times by an unknown gunman.

People left the viewing and came onto the street after the shooting, but some remained inside as police conducted their investigation, the Courier-Post stated, adding that Serrano and family members had to tell other arriving relatives that Vazquez had not survived being shot.

“I went outside, and he was lying in a puddle of blood,” Vazquez’s cousin, Maria ValCarcelo, described the scene to 6ABC, which added that Vazquez was pronounced dead at the scene.
