A man was shot in East Mount Airy during a carjacking Friday night.
The victim, 38, got into his vehicle parked on the 6600 block of Chew Avenue when a man approached him with a semiautomatic handgun and demanded his wallet. When he refused, the thief opened fire.
The victim was shot several times in his back, but drove himself to Chestnut Hill Hospital. He was transferred to Abington Hospital, where he is in stable condition.
Police are looking for a five-foot-ten to five-foot-eleven black man, aged 28-29, weighing 160 to 170 pounds with a full beard and wearing a black leather jacket, black pants and a black baseball cap with red trim.
No arrests have yet been made.
