Manuel benches Ibanez

Too late to make changes? Maybe not.

Going back on some of comments he made after Game 3, Phillies skipper Charlie Manuel chose to shake up his lineup by starting Ben Francisco in left field, in place of a struggling Raul Ibanez.

Ibanez had been hitless in his last 11 at-bats, and was carting a .130 (3-for-23) average and seven strikeouts in the postseason.

“I talked to Raul and I feel like Raul is trying too hard and overswinging, chasing bad balls, the swing’s getting long,” Manuel said.

Francisco had a .284 average against left-handers in the regular season.
