Still haunted by his daughter’s unsolved murder nearly two weeks ago, Joseph Goldberg was hovering yesterday around the scene where a second woman’s body was found on Saturday, pondering a possible connection.
Authorities said they found the body of 35-year-old Nicole Piacentini partially clothed in a vacant lot on 1900 East Cumberland around 4 p.m. on Saturday. Police said she had been strangled to death.
On Nov. 3, police found Elaine Goldberg, 21, strangled to death in a lot about a half-mile away on the 2800 block of Ruth Street.
Joseph Goldberg insisted that his daughter, who had dealt with drug problems, was in recovery and helping others. She was enrolled as a nursing student at Gwynedd Mercy College, he said.
“She was working really hard,” Joseph Goldberg said. “I’m not trying to hide the fact that she had a struggle, but I’m proud of the fact she was getting her life together.”
He said he hoped a second murder “may lead to a more speedy” resolution in his daughter’s killing. “She was murdered by a monster on the street,” he said.
Details unclear
Investigators said they do not know whether Piacentini was sexually assaulted. There were no obvious signs found at the scene on East Cumberland Street and a rape kit performed on her will not be finished for several weeks.
