Who knew Mayor Jim Kenney would be branching out into sitcoms? Philly’s 99th mayor has recently appeared in promo trailers for ABC’s new show, “The Mayor,” which tells the story of aspiring rapper, Courtney Rose (played by Brandon Michael Hall), who decides to run for mayor of his town to generate buzz for his music. The plan works a little too well and he ends up winning.
In the promos, Kenney offers advice to the rapper-turned-politician alongside mayors from other cities that include Levar Stoney of Richmond, Virginia and Jim Schmitt of Green Bay, Wisconsin.
In one, he says: “Kids like the fist bump.”
In other, he gives music recommendations, saying that he has his staff play “Eye of the Tiger” every time he enters the room.
In the third promo, he advises to never eat on the job, even though he is eating a hoagie in the clip.
The first episode of “The Mayor” airs tonight on ABC at 9:30 p.m.
According to Philly.com, Mayor Kenney will not be appearing in the show itself.
