Mayor Nutter aims to close Felton Supper Club for good

The Feltonville nightclub where nine people were shot early yesterday morning had recently been granted a petition to reopen after a court order shuttered its doors early this year due to persistent violence and L&I violations, officials said yesterday.

The Felton Supper Club on the 4800 block of Rising Sun Avenue was open for only a few weeks before two men exiting the venue shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday fired 18 rounds into a crowd of people following a dispute out front. Five women and four men, with ages ranging from 19 to 35, were hit. All are in stable condition.

“We’re not putting up with this crap anymore at this location or anywhere around the city,” said Mayor Michael Nutter at a news conference yesterday. “We will push the line right up to the line to make sure the place stays closed.”

Witnesses estimated that a thousand people were outside of the club when the shooting occurred.

“[The club-goers] are out at all hours — 5 a.m., making lots of noise. Sometimes there’s fights,” said Isabele, an employee of the neighboring Fabio’s Chicken Restaurant, who declined to give her last name.

The city is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the two suspects, who are described as African-Americans between the ages of 18 and 20.

In December 2010, a man was shot inside the club, and this past January someone was killed.

“It’s been bad in the past, but last night was about as bad as it can get,” said the Fabio’s employee.
