Meek Mill arrested in New York for Instagram dirt bike videos

Rapper Meek Mill, currently on probation in Philadelphia, was arrested in New York for allegedly popping wheelies on a dirtbike without a helmet.

Mill, real name Robert Rihmeek Williams, 30, was arrested on 10th Ave. and Dyckman St. after being identified in videos of a group of dirt bikers riders riding around Upper Manhattan that went up on Instagram.

Mill streamed his arrest on Instagram live. Watch below:

Mill was hit with felony charges of reckless endangerment, police said. Law enforcement arrested Mill around 10:15 p.m. Aug. 17, reportedly while he was at a basketball clinic for kids, a day after police say he participated in a large group dirt-bike ride.

NYPD Det. Sophia Mason said police in the 34th precinct had been alerted to Mill’s alleged conduct one day before, around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 16, when they received 911 calls about a “roving band” of riders on dirt-bikes and quads [four-wheelers/ATVs]. They later viewed much of the activity as it was posted on social media by various riders.

“There were several Instagram posts and videos showing people riding on these motor vehicles,” Mason said. “They were performing wheelies, riding without helmets, disobeying traffic and vehicle laws. These actions caused the risk of great injury, of possible death.”

Mill was the only person identified in the Instagram videos by police, and was subsequently arrested one day later.

Mill, a Philly native, remains on probation for a nearly 10-year-old gun possession case in that city. The original five-year probation sentence reset after Mill was tossed back in jail for about eight months when a judge ruled he violated parole by tweeting insults about staff handling his case and playing concerts out of town without proper permission.

It was not immediately clear how the arrest in New York would affect Mill’s probation in Philadelphia.

Mills was expected to be released on bail Friday morning.
