NBC10 will have a new meteorologist joining the First Alert Weather team the first week of March — Tammie Souza. A Pennsylvania native, Souza is the first meteorologist to be hired since Sheena Parveen’s departure at the end of last year. She comes to NBC10 from WFLD/FOX 32 in Chicago. “Tammie’s engaging personality and passion for weather will be a great addition to the NBC10 First Alert Weather team,” says Anzio Williams, Vice President of News for NBC10 and Telemundo62 in a press release. “Having covered many severe weather events, including blizzards, tornados, wildfires and hurricanes, her expertise will complement our weather team’s coverage in the Greater Philadelphia region.” A love for weather and science seems to run in Souza’s family, with her father having worked for the space program and her sister being a meteorologist in Sacramento.
“Weather has been my passion since childhood,” says Souza in a press release. “I was hooked when my grandfather took me flying in a small plane and there was no turning back when I saw my first tornado.” So far in her career, Souza has 17 Emmy nominations and six awards for Best Weathercast, Best Science Report and Live Reporting.
“From storm chasing to blizzards to hurricanes, I’ve seen it all and have forecasted it all,” she says. “Now, I’m excited for the next chapter in my life to unfold in Philadelphia, which is known for its various weather patterns.” Souza will be on the air in the evenings at 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. starting March 6.
