Metro Philadelphia to receive News Sustainability Initiative grant

Metro Philadelphia

Metro Philadelphia is among 17 local news organizations that will receive The Lenfest Institute for Journalism’s Philadelphia Local News Sustainability Initiative grant.

Intended to help address specific sustainability needs, the two-year, $2 million grant program supports established Philadelphia-area news organizations that were chosen following an open-call application process.

Metro Philadelphia is thrilled to be among the inaugural grant recipients and is eager to contribute extensive reporting on the affordable housing crisis. By investigating housing needs across the city, Metro aims to connect the city’s homeless population, neighbors and organizations with resources to help those in need find shelter and strengthen our communities.

“We are incredibly grateful for this opportunity and plan to use this grant money to genuinely help Philadelphians through investigative reporting and solutions journalism,” said Melissa Mitman, editor of Metro Philadelphia. “This is an opportunity for our newsroom to help the city we love — and ideally, to provide a lifeline to the city’s most vulnerable — and we do not take that responsibility lightly. We cannot wait to get started.”
