Michael Rapaport of ‘Justified’ chats with us at the 2016 DNC

Michael Rapaport — actor, comedian, podcaster and director — is in Philadelphia for the 2016 Democratic National Convention with Snapple’s #Teacision2016. Having appeared in over 40 films since beginning his career in the ’90s and known for roles on “Boston Public” and “Justified,” he now hosts the popular podcast, “I Am Rapaport.” He took some time to chat with us about his favorite places to go in Philly, convention survival tips and making the ultimate choice between a cheesesteak, water ice or a Philly pretzel.

How does it feel to be here, Michael?
I’m glad to be here. I’ve always had an affection for the city of Philadelphia. It’s hot. I think it is an interesting time in the world. It’s an interesting week here in Philadelphia.

So I have to ask you a few questions. You’ve been to Philadelphia before?
Yes.

What are some of your favorite spots?
My favorite spot, and it’s going to sound like a cliche, is absolutely the Art Museum — which I call the “Rocky Steps.” I know I’m not the only one. I’m in love with that movie. It came out in 1976. So that’s my favorite spot.

You’re a very big movie buff. You’ve been in over 40 movies yourself!
Yes. I always get goosebumps when I am near the Rocky stairs.

So you have been here a few times, so you can only choose one thing. Either a cheesesteak, water ice or a Philly soft pretzel.
Normally I would say a Philly cheesesteak, but because it is so hot out today, I have to say water ice.

OK, cool! That’s a good idea. Stay hydrated. Now, have you been to political conventions before?
This is my first political convention. I’m excited to be in Philadelphia for the DNC, but I’m more excited to be here introducing two new flavors of Snapple. And if you know anything about me, you know Snapple is my favorite drink. So I am excited to be here in general, but I am honored to be opening a blue tea and a red tea for Snapple here in the streets of Philadelphia.

That’s so rad.
Yeah. It’s rad. It’s really rad.

So you haven’t been to a convention before, but do you have a convention survival tip for us?
I think a convention survival tip would be: stay cool, take it serious but not that serious, don’t get yourself in trouble, don’t get yourself a heart attack and when things get out of hand and when things get overwhelming just crack open a bottle of Snapple and just cool off and enjoy yourself. Those are my tips.
