It’s time to have some fun in the sun.

Over Memorial Day Weekend, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation turned on the taps at more than 90 spraygrounds and splash pads throughout the city. The spraygrounds will be open seven days a week through Labor Day, weather dependent.

“The temperature is rising, and the return of spraygrounds is a sign that summer is almost here,” said Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Commissioner Kathryn Ott Lovell. “Spraygrounds are a great way to stay cool and have fun on those hot summer days. We are excited to welcome residents back to our spraygrounds.”

This year, residents can enjoy new spray areas, thanks to the City’s Rebuild initiative, and recently completed Parks & Recreation capital projects. The new locations include Capitolo Playground, 900 Federal St.; Granahan Playground, 6500 Callowhill St.; Hayes Recreation Center, 9800 Roosevelt Blvd.; McCreesh Playground, 6744 Regent St.; and Roosevelt Playground, 6455 Walker St.

“Recreation has never been more vital to our kids and communities than it will be this summer,” said Councilmember Cherelle Parker. “I am encouraged to see so many young people preparing to head back to their rec centers and community spaces this summer. After the year they’ve had, the best place for Philly kids to be this summer is at the rec — splashing around and making memories.”
