Police are investigating a car accident that left a mother dead and hospitalized a young child in Northeast Philadelphia this afternoon.
The woman, 44, was walking on the sidewalk of the 8600 block of East Roosevelt Boulevard with a male child, estimated to be between three and five years of age, when a truck cut off a Camry, causing it to jump the curb and strike the two around 2:45 p.m.
The woman was pronounced dead on the scene less than 10 minutes later and the child was taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. He is currently in stable condition.
The driver of the Camry stopped, but the driver of the truck that cut it off did not.
No word yet on whether charges will be filed against either motorist.
