Jamie Moyer just doesn’t want to call it quits. But his body may force him to.
After injuring his elbow this season and being sidelined for the second half of the season, he reportedly re-injured the elbow in the Dominican Republic on Saturday.
A Dominican journalist reported via Twitter that Moyer left a winter league game after two innings due to elbow pain.
Former Major Leaguer Moises Alou, the general manager of the team Moyer was pitching for in the Dominican Republic, told the journalist that Moyer’s injury was likely career-ending.
The 47-year-old lefty is a free agent and the Phillies were unlikely to re-sign him.
Moyer was 9-9 with a 4.84 ERA in 19 starts this season. His last start came on July 20.
