Bruins 3, Flyers 2 OT (BOS leads series, 2-0)
What went wrong …
1 Don’t blame JVR
Not that long ago he was a healthy lineup scratch for Peter Laviolette. No more. James van Riemsdyk has emerged as a budding star. If not for him, the Flyers would have been buried in this one. Not only did he score two goals in the first 10 ½ minutes, JVR was all over the ice creating more chances for himself and teammates.
2 No good luck charm
Following a stirring Lauren Hart/Kate Smith rendition of “God Bless America” with chants of “USA! USA!” in the air and a military honor guard, the Flyers roared out to a quick 2-0 lead. But they couldn’t sustain it for the old gal, as the Bruins rallied to tie it up with first-period goals 1:25 apart. So far, Kate, Lauren and the Flyers are just 2-4 on home ice in the playoffs.
3 Closing time
For the fourth game in the last five, the Flyers made a goalie switch, but this time Brian Boucher wasn’t pulled because of incompetence. He was hurt. He left midway through the second period after catching Johnny Boychuk’s shot on his finger. But after Sergei Bobrovsky kept the door shut, Boosh returned to blank the Bruins in the third and send it to OT. That’s where his — and the Flyers’ luck — ran out, as David Krecji netted the game-winner. Boston’s Tim Thomas kicked out 52-of-54 shots faced, including 32 in the third period and overtime.
