Nine Chihuahuas removed from Philly home

The PSPCA announced that animal cruelty charges were filed today against local man Ian Spedding, 23, for keeping nine Chihuahuas in “filthy conditions” in his Roxborough rowhome.

Humane law enforcement officers from Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals executed a warrant Feb. 27 at Spedding’s home on the 400 block of Ripka Street and removed the dogs from the home.

Five of the miniature dogs were surrendered to the PSPCA and will be available for adoption at the society’s headquarters.

The PSPCA was alerted to Spedding after a complaint was filed on its animal cruelty hotline.

The Dept of Licenses & Inspection issued a 10-day cleanout order for the home after the conditions were discovered, the PSPCA said.
