The Big East held a meeting in Philadelphia — and didn’t invite Temple into its hallowed halls.
The league met yesterday at the Philadelphia Airport Marriott and voted to extend invitations to Boise State, Navy and Air Force for football — and then Central Florida, Houston and SMU for all sports.
That means Temple was left on the outside looking in. However, if one of those schools declines, the Owls may be called on as a football-only replacement.
“As we’ve learned over these past two months, don’t believe anything anybody tells you,” Big East commissioner John Marinatto said. “Nothing’s done until it’s over. So I’m obviously being very cautious, and that’s why I’m reluctant to say names of schools. “
The Big East is in desperate need of adding more schools, especially for football. Longtime members Pittsburgh and Syracuse are bolting for the ACC, while TCU and West Virginia are heading to the Big 12. West Virginia has filed a lawsuit against the Big East in an attempt to leave early. Under its current contract, the Big East has a 27-month waiting period to leave.
