No walk in the park for ManU in Philadelphia

When the Union face Manchester United at Lincoln Financial Field tomorrow, the final score isn’t what matters most to either club.

Sir Alex Ferguson, widely-respected manager of Man U since 1986, considers the current American tour a means to get his troops in shape for the 2010-11 season. His Union counterpart, Peter Nowak, sees it as much more.

“It’s a great experience to face such a prestigious team, but it’s more about what’s behind the game itself, that we continue to grow as a team, to learn what work still needs to be done,” Nowak said yesterday at the NovaCare Complex, where ManU is holding two-a-day workouts.

After sharing the stage with ManU players Nani and Wes Brown — who, along with Ferguson, were given DeSean Jackson jerseys and Union scarves — Union captain Danny Califf didn’t promise a Miracle on Grass.

“We don’t get many chances to play a team that plays this kind of style. We have a chance to show people who don’t really get to watch the Union that we put out a good product, and that we work really hard,” Califf said. “I don’t think they’ll walk all over us.”
