Nor’easter heading Philly’s way

Philadelphians could be in a for a weatherbeaten week, as a No’Easter descends on the area beginning Monday afternoon and continuing into Thursday.

Forecasters say the week will start with flurries turning into rain Monday afternoon and extending overnight into Tuesday with a chance of flooding on Tuesday morning, said Meteorologist Mitchell Gaines of the National Weather Service.

For Monday, Gaines said the Philadelphia area will most likely only get a coating.

“Highest chances (for high accumulations) are going to be up in the Poconos,” Gaines said. “Some areas just northwest of Philly have the highest chance of picking up to an inch of snow.”

For Tuesday, the NWS is predicting heavy rain throughout the day, with “Wind gusts anywhere from 20 to perhaps as high as 40 miles an hour for Philadelphia,” Gaines added.

Gaines said there is a 50 percent chance of snow on Wednesday and Thursday,”And that’s both rain and snow, with temperatures generally at or above freezing,” he added.

The accumulation estimation doesn’t look substantial, but that could change as the week rolls forward.
