’Nova tops Drexel for seventh win in ugly one

This was like watching paint dry. How about a marathon viewing party of C-SPAN? Plain and simple, this was ugly basketball.

With six minutes left in the first half, Villanova led Drexel 15-10. At that point, the two teams had combined to miss 33 shots. Drexel (3-5) didn’t score for nearly 10 minutes. Still, No. 3 Villanova (7-0) managed to win easily, 77-58, last night.

Antonio Pena paced the Wildcats with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Taylor King hit four 3-pointers and scored 14 points.

“I thought we did a good job defensively on their guards,” Villanova coach Jay Wright said.

Gerald Colds was 0-for-9 and Jamie Harris was 0-for-8 for Drexel. Derrick Thomas scored a career-high 23 points, while freshman Chris Fouch added a career-best 20 for the Dragons.

Villanova travels to Washington, D.C., Sunday to face Maryland. On Saturday, Drexel will host Northeastern.
