A whole new shelf life at a Passyunk grocery store

What do you get when a food writer opens a grocery store? The motherload of handpicked products that will have you leaving with a smile every time.

Brothers Andrew and Adam Erace (who writes for Philadelphia Weekly) have opened Green Aisle Grocery (1618 E. Passyunk Ave.) in South Philly, and the tiny store fits right in with the neighborhood’s row houses. In fact, there’s only one aisle, but what wonders abound on its shelves:

high-end tonic water, raw milk, organic English muffins and a host of other delicious options that whet the appetite.

But what makes Green Aisle especially fun are items from local restaurants. Zahav sells their impeccable hummus alongside chili and black bean soup from Cafe con Chocolate. James’ Jim Burke has been proclaimed one of the best new chefs in America by Food & Wine magazine, and now you can pick up his apple honey or fennel mostarda for topping the fresh bread from Wild Flour Bakery — all in one spot.
