Officer charged for reportedly trading favors for sex

A NewJersey police officer has been suspended after allegedly triying to swap a police favor for a sexual act.

Monroe Township police officer Robert Marzi wascharged with misconduct last week following allegations of “unauthorized exercise of his official functions with the purpose to obtain a benefit to himself,” the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office said Monday.

Marzi, 29, has been suspended without pay. He was placed on administrative leave Monday after a complaint against him was signed Aug. 10, the prosecutor’s office said.

The two-year veteran of the force allegedly promised to help a woman with pending criminal charges in exchange for oral sex, the Courier-Post reported.​

Marzi turned himself in after learning of the complaint, according to the Courier-Post.

He posted $25,000 bail and has been released.

“It is deeply regretful that a member of the Monroe Township Police Department has been charged with a crime,” Monroe Police Chief John McKeown said in a statement. “Like all persons accused of a criminal act, this officer is entitled to due process of the law. I expect this to take time.”

The chiefsaid his departmentwill continue to cooperate with the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, and will conduct its own administrative investigation.
