Officers kill bulldog that bit kids in West Philly

Police officers shot an American bulldog to death Saturday night after the animal bit children and charged at officers.

The incident on the 5700 block of Pemberton Street in Cobbs Creek on Saturday night after police received a call at 11:20 p.m. of a “person screaming.”

Police officers arrived and found a 14-year-old girl “bleeding from her face, arms, and feet,” according to the police report.

The girl told police “that she was inside the location with her friends when she was attacked by a American Bulldog inside and bitten several times,” the police report said.

Receiving word other kids were inside the same building, officers entered, at which point the dog charged them.

“The bulldog charged at the officers. The officers retreated before being forced to fire shots at the dog to stop its advance,” the police report states.

The dog was was fatally wounded by the shooting.

The 14 year old victim was transported to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and was listed in stable condition.

She sustained “numerous abrasions, lacerations, and puncture wounds to her nose, right foot, right leg, both hands, both arms, and right nostril” during the dog attack, according to police.

No other injuries were reported.

No arrests were reported and the owner of the dog, or whether the dog had an owner, was not released. The case remains under investigation.
