Pa. boy with cerebral palsy kicked out of pool for water wings

A boy with cerebral palsy who was kicked out of a Pittsburgh pool for wearing water wings was allowed to return after showing a doctor’s note.

Max Wymer, his mother, Jen, and sister were kicked out of the pool earlier this month because his mother refused to remove his water wings, according to WPXI in Pittsburgh.

Lifeguards at the pool told Jen Wymer that flotation devices were against the rules. She explained to lifeguards that her son had cerebral palsy and had poor balance, but lifeguards ordered her to remove the wings, the report said.

Jen Wymer complied, but after an hour of holding Max up in the pool she put them back on, which prompted lifeguards to call police.

“I put the floaties back on and the lifeguard manager came back and I said, ‘I’m sorry, but he’s wearing the floaties today,’ and he called the police again,” Jen Wymer told the TV station.

She said two police officers escorted her out of the pool.

Fortunately, the story had a happy ending when the family returned to the pool Monday with a doctor’s note.
