Pa. declares state of emergency, American Airlines cancels PHL flights as blizzard looms

Philadelphia’s Office of Emergency Management alerted denizens to the impending blizzard earlier today, and now state officials are chiming in, too.

Gov. Tom Wolf, a Democrat, has declared a state of emergency in Pennsylvania as the region braces for the storm most forecasters believe will be hellish – that is, if hell froze over.

“Declaring a state of emergency allows the commonwealth to deliver state resources wherever they’re needed as quickly as possible,” Wolf explained in a statement. “We have multiple state agencies working at the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency to monitor weather conditions across the state and we will respond to help local governments and residents in need.”

American Airlines has also alreadycanceled all flights operating inPhiladelphia on Saturday, too, according to 6ABC.

Philadelphians have already begun preparing for the blizzard in good stead. Of course, the prognostications are already aplenty, leading local news site Billy Penn to publish an accountability worksheet detailing which meteorologists forecast what and when they made the predictions.

CBS Philly’s Kate Fehlingerreportedly kicked off the predictions, which prompted aflurry of dispatches from local meteorologists vaguely, or not-so-vaguely, rejecting specific snowfall totals until the storm is overhead.

Here in Philadelphia, a blizzard watch is in effect from Friday, Jan. 22, at 7:00 p.m. until Sunday morning.

So, make your peace now.
