Pennsylvania Ballet fires back at sexist insult from Eagles fan

The Pennsylvania Ballet has taken to social media to refute a disappointed Eagles fan’s claim that the team played “like they were wearing tutus.”

Last week, a Facebook user by the name of Jerry Ward went on the social media platform in an effort to criticize the footballl team’s losing season by equating their poor on-field performance with ballet performers, Philly.com reported.

Jonathan Stiles, marketing manager for the Pennsylvania Ballet, fired back at the insult in a lengthy Facebook retort which smartly pointed out that, had the Eagles played with the athletic capability of ballet dancers, they indeed could have had a winning season.

“The Eagles have not played like they were wearing tutus. If they had, Chip Kelly would still be a head coach, and we’d all be looking forward to the playoffs,” Stiles wrote in the Facebook comeback.

This is not the first time that ballet and football have overlapped,Newsweekreported in a related article. In 1988, Dallas Cowboys running back Herschel Walker performed with the Fort Worth ballet, and at the University of South Carolina, football players are know to attend the school’s dance appreciation course, the article stated.

Lauren Fadeley, one of the Pennsylvania Ballet's principal dancers, was quoted by Philly.com explaining the physicality it takes to be an accomplished dancer. "Our job is to make it look easy," Fadeley said in the report. "But we're dying up there."

So far, Stiles’ response has received more than 34,000 likes.
