Summer is just around the corner, and there will be plenty to do across Philadelphia.

Mayor Cherelle Parker and city officials on Wednesday announced local programs and activities for the 2025 “ItsASummerThing” season, including summer camps, access to public swimming pools, library events and much more.

“Philadelphia’s young people deserve a summer filled with safe, structured, and enriching experiences,” Parker said. “We are making significant investments to ensure families have access to high-quality programs that promote learning, recreation, and career development.”

Programs include academic enrichment programs (meals, camp activities, field trips), Career Connected Learning (hands-on work experience with pay), Playstreets (block party for kids with free meals), library and STEM programs, and youth development programs.

Local families will also have access to city pools, spray grounds, summer camps, seasonal job opportunities and more, officials said during Wednesday’s program announcement.

“Summer programming is an opportunity for students to engage in fun activities, while building relationships and exploring new ventures outside of the academic school year,” said Tony Watlington, Superintendent for the School District of Philadelphia.

As part of the city’s efforts to support families year-round, the city also announced its Third Annual Parent and Youth Resource Fair, which will take place at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will provide families with access to educational resources, summer program details, job opportunities, and support services. Representatives from city agencies and community organizations will be on hand to answer questions and assist families in accessing available resources.

“Our goal is to create pathways for children and teens to learn new skills, make lifelong memories, and stay engaged in positive activities,” said Vanessa Garrett Harley, Chief Deputy Mayor, Social Impact and Strategic Initiatives. “We’re proud to provide free or low-cost opportunities that help children stay active, continue learning, and build skills for their future.”

“Philadelphia’s children and families deserve a summer filled with fun, connection, and new opportunities,” said Susan Slawson, Commissioner of Philadelphia Parks & Recreation. “From camps and Playstreets to youth employment opportunities, we are doing our part to create a safe, supportive, and memorable summer for everyone.”
