Philadelphia wedding venues that aren’t boring

Getting married is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of deal and much like finding the perfect apartment, it’s all about location, location, location. For the couples out there who want to go the extra mile, we’ve come up with a list of wedding venues that will make your wedding unforgettable. This will be updated regularly, so be sure to check back as we add even more spaces.

Museums

Are you and your significant other big history buffs? Science geeks? Obsessed with all things macabre? Then you should probably have your wedding in one of Philadelphia’s many museums. From having a huge carousel presiding over your ceremony at The Please Touch Museum to taking in sweeping views of Old City from the Museum of the American Revolution’s gorgeous event space, you have so many options, it’s a little overwhelming.

Mutter Museum

If you’re really into all things creepy, hosting your wedding at the Mutter Museum is a must. While the indoor Marble Rotunda absolutely oozes elegance and has a 200-person capacity, there is an option on the website to rent out the entire first floor, which includes the museum portion complete with real human skeletons and medical oddities. (Ties in with the “until death do us part” idea, right?) The only thing to note is that you can’t bring food or drink into the museum itself.

Please Touch Museum
4231 Avenue of the Republic

The Please Touch Museum is the city’s premiere children’s museum but ever since moving to the stunning Memorial Hall in 2008, it’s become the perfect site for a dream wedding. The building itself dates back to 1876 and has a capacity for up to 3,000 guests. Signature features include a gorgeous old school carousel that’s perfect for wedding photos as well as the 60-foot ceilings and stunning glass dome inside Hamilton Hall.

Museum of the American Revolution

The recently opened Museum of the American Revolution in Old City is the perfect place for a wedding whether you’re obsessed with history or not. With six different event spaces and a capacity for 1000 people, there are a variety of options for your wedding depending on its size and the features you want. On the first floor, the Rotunda and Grand Staircase area makes quite the impression and can hold a reception for 220 people. If it’s views you’re looking for, Liberty Hall on the third floor can host a seated reception for 180 people and even has an open air terrace that overlooks sites like Independence National Historic Park.

Independence Seaport Museum

Fancy a wedding by the water? The Independence Seaport Museum on the Delaware River is your spot. Event spaces include the Ballroom & Ballroom Terraces on the museum’s top floor that offer incredible vistas of the river and the Philadelphia skyline. Dreaming of a outdoor reception with water as the backdrop? The Rotunda offers 180-degree views of the river and has a seated capacity of 60 – just the right size for more intimate affairs.
