Phillies back in playoffs

After back-to-back losses to the pathetic Houston Astros, Phillies ace Roy Halladay donned the cape and threw a complete-game shutout, a 1-0 gem, to clinch a playoff sport for the team.

With the win, the Phillies’ magic number for an NL East title is down to four games. They’ll host a day-night doubleheader Thursday vs. the Florida Marlins at Citizens Bank Park.

Charlie Manuel also picked up his 639th victory as Phils skipper, vaulting him to No. 2 on the franchise’s all-time list. Gene Mauch holds the top spot with 645 wins.

The Phillies’ lone run came in the top of the first inning, when Shane Victorino doubled and scored on a Placido Polanco single. Halladay picked up his 18th win of the season.
