A month later, and it still doesn’t make any sense. Phillies legend Dallas Green spoke yesterday, with tears in his eyes, about the tragic shooting rampage that killed his 9-year-old granddaughter in Tucson, Ariz.
Green, a self-admitted hunter, said he just doesn’t see the need for people to own automatic weapons, like the Glock 19 used in the shooting.
“That doesn’t make sense to be able to sell those kinds of things,” Green told reporters in Clearwater, Fla. “What reason is there to have those kinds of guns other than to kill people?”
Green, who guided the Phillies to the 1980 world championship, is now a senior advisor in the team’s front office. He was back at work yesterday, watching the Phillies work out at the Carpenter Complex. His mind was still very much on his granddaughter, Christina Taylor Green.
“The baseball gets me past it for awhile. But then something jumps into my mind,” Green said.
