Another key figure from the Phillies’ 2008 World Series championship team is out the door as the team traded second baseman Chase Utley to the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday, according to CBS Sports. The Phillies will pick up two minor leaguers in the deal.
The 36-year-old Utley is a shell of what he once was, but has been hot at the plate of late – going 15-for-31 since returning from an ankle injury.
Utley had been with the Phillies his entire career prior to Wednesday’s deal. The Long Beach, California native made six All-Star teams and was a four-time Silver Slugger Award winner in Philadelphia. He drove in at least 100 runs per year from 2005-08 and belted a pair of home runs in the Phillies’ 2008 World Series victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. The Dodgers will now employ the Phillies’ old double-play duo of Utley and Jimmy Rollins.
