Philly celebrates Veteran’s Day

Veteran’s Day Weekend at the MOAR

The Museum of the American Revolution is celebrating Veteran’s Day not just on Wednesday, but throughout this weekend as well. From Wednesday, Nov. 11 until Sunday, Nov. 15, the MOAR will offer free admission to veterans, those currently serving in the military, and Blue Star Families, courtesy of Comcast NBCUniversal. The celebration will also feature pop-up theatrical performances, 10-minute pop-up talks, rare photographs of the veterans who survived into the age of photography, a special take-and-make activity to design your own commemorative ribbon and coloring pages for the kiddos on top of other special surprises.

Free Pet Food Pantry for Veteran’s and Active Military Personnel

According to a release, The Pennsylvania SPCA’s Community Outreach program is dedicated to keeping pets in their homes by building access to free resource services within neighborhoods. No Dog Gets Left Behind (NDGLB), a long-time partner of the PSPCA, recognizes the role animals play in healing, relieving stress, and bringing love into the lives of military service members, and to celebrate Veteran’s Day, NDGLB has sponsored this pet food pantry to ensure that bond is not broken. The Pennsylvania SPCA and No Dog Gets Left Behind have decided to partner up to host a free pet food pantry for veterans and active military personnel in celebration of Veteran’s Day this Wednesday. The event, which will be hosted on a first-come, first serve basis, will take place at the corner of 47th and Fairmount Avenue in West Philadelphia on Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to noon, or while supplies last.

Veteran’s Day Remembrance

Philadelphians who want to honor those who have served our country can head to First Amendment Plaza (Independence Mall, 5th and Market) where songs—singing along is welcomed and encouraged—will be dedicated to all the soldiers citizens plus family and friends of all the military branches. This event takes place from noon to 1 p.m., is rain or shine and may be the only in-person event in the City of Brotherly Love to commemorate the holiday. Masks and social distancing will be required.
