A 26-year-old Philly cop who was discovered driving his patrol car drunk and then assaulted a supervisor now faces criminal charges and has been fired from his job.

Darryl Cathey, a 6-year veteran of the force assigned to the 12th District, was spotted by a 12 District supervisor around midnight Saturday morning driving his marked police vehicle with three flat tires at bent rims on the 6500 block of Woodland Avenue.

“As he began a conversation with Cathey, the supervisor observed his bloodshot eyes and he smelled an odor of alcohol on his breath; furthermore, Cathey indicated he did not know that he was operating his police vehicle on the rims with flattened tires,” the police report states.

Cathey was then placed in custody, at which point he “began to struggle and assault a supervisor,” police says.

Cathey faces charges of driving under the influence, criminal mischief, as well as aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person for assaulting the supervisor.

Commissioner Charles Ramsey will suspend Cathey for 30 days with intent to dismiss, police said.
