Philly detective accused of breaking man’s leg to stand trial: Judge

A Philadelphia police detective accused of assault and unlawful restraint after allegedly kicking a man and breaking his leg will stand trial, a judge said Friday.

Det. Adam O’Donnell, 43, allegedly kicked Theodore Life III, 45, in the right knee and fractured his femur last February, according to Philly.com.

Life reportedly told the court that O’Donnell kicked him without provocation while he was being escorted from the police station. District Attorney Seth Williams said Life was there as part of an investigation but would not elaborate on the details.

“Det. O’Donnell grabbed Mr. Life and kicked him once in the knee,” a press release from Williams read. “After falling to the ground in pain, Life regained his composure and found that he could stand but could not put any weight on his leg. Det. O’Donnell then put Mr. Life in an unmarked police vehicle and drove him to the Hunting Park section of the City where he dropped the injured Mr. Life off on a random roadside.”
