Philly mayhem: Fire aftermath, Burlington bus crash, deadbeats nabbed

Five injured, 100 homeless in Philly fire

Philadelphia firefighters Wednesday morning were still pouring water on hot spots at the Rita Grace Manor apartments, where five people were injured and more than 100 left homeless the night before in a stubborn fire

“Our members are still on-scene putting water on the bldg from last nights 4-alarm fire,” the PFD reported on Twitter at 9 a.m.

The first call for the fire at the Academy Road complex, near Holme Avenue in Torresdale, came in at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday. Officials reported that high winds made the blaze more difficult to put out.

Displaced residents were taken by the Red Cross to a make-shift shelter at Abraham Lincoln High School.
