Philly native and Olympic hopeful charged in West Philly shoot-out

The profile of a Philly boxeron Team USA’s website as a would-be Olympianhas been scrubbed from the Internet after it was revealed he is suspected of involvement in a weekend shoot-out in West Philadelphia.

PaulKroll, 21, was identified Wednesday by police as one of threesuspects charged with a Saturday morning shoot-outat Chestnut and 55th Street.

He was arrested Monday and PhillyVoice identified him as an aspiring welterweight boxer from West Philly who once had hopes of boxing in Rio de Janeiro this summer.

According to his former Team USA profile, Kroll is a 152-pound boxer who won the Olympic trials, but was eliminated in a later qualifying match. The Daily News profiled his aspirations in January.

According to police, the weekend violence stemmed from an argument and left three wounded: a 25-year-old male shot in the stomach, a 24-year-old shot in the leg and a 15-year-old also shot in the leg.

Kroll and another suspect, Cardell Hellams, 24, were both charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault. A third suspect, Gary Martin, 22, is charged with obstructing justice.

“This is a shock to my whole system,” Kroll’s trainer Dirk “Grasshopper” Gooden told Philly Voice. “He (Kroll) was never in no trouble. Not a trace of trouble.”
