Philly prepares for another snow dump

City officials ordered trash pick-up resumed on Tuesday after snowfall was lighter than predicted.

Residents whose trash was not picked up Tuesday were told to put their trash back out. Trash pick-up service will revisit those streets on Wednesday, the Mayor’s office announced.

The rest of the week’s trash pick-up will continue as scheduled.

The pick-up was canceled Tuesday as the city took early steps to ramp up preparations for the projected snowfall from Monday night that could go into Wednesday evening.

“This may not be on the scale of last month’s blizzard, but we are treating this as a full-scale event,”Clarena Tolson, Deputy Managing Director for Infrastructure and Transportation, said in a statement.“We want to make sure we’re out there ahead of the storm.”

A winter storm warning is in effect in the area until 6 p.m. Wednesday. Forecasters were projecting as much as three to six inches of snow.

The city also reiterated that residents are required to shovel a path three feet wide in front of their property within six hours of a snow storm ending.

“Residents should also be aware that shoveling snow into the street is against the law and counterproductive to city plowing efforts,” the Mayor’s Office said in a statement.
