Philly Telemundo reporter slapped during Soda Tax live shot

A Spanish language reporter was slapped in the head during a live shot outside City Hall Wednesday night.

“Ay, Dios mio!” exclaimed anchorman Ramon Zayas as the reporter, Iris Delgado, was hit. The camera quickly cut away during the assault, but before Delgado was hit a black woman in a green T-shirt was seen approaching Delgado and speaking to her.

Delgado, a reporter for Telemundo 62, was outside City Hall covering the Soda Tax vote, which passed a 1.5 per-ouncetax on soda and sugary beverages in Philadelphia.

The news crew reportedly helped lead police to the assailant.

Waheedah Wilson, 37, was arrested after the assault, Philly.com reported. It was unclear what prompted the attack, though Wilson has a history of drug possession with intent to delivery, according to records.

“Iris Delgado was the victim of an unprovoked attack by an individual while reporting live for Telemundo62’s 11 PM local newscast,” a spokesperson for the station said in a statement. “Thankfully, she is OK and is understandably taking some time off to recover. We look forward to her return.”
