The Barnes Museum is open today for a press preview at its new home on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Metro’s photo editor Rikard Larma is on the scene with some of the first images from the revamped facilities.
The building will be dedicated Friday at 11 a.m. and The Barnes Foundation is celebrating by offering ten days of free admission from May 19 through May 28, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., culminating in a Memorial Day festival weekend featuring entertainment and an opening gala.
The new $150 million, 93,000 square-foot campus features gardens, cafes, educational facilities and a gallery preserving the original Merion collection of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and early Modern paintings, as well as African
sculpture and Pennsylvania Dutch decorative arts.
The Barnes Foundation is located at 2025 Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Tickets are free to members and children under the age of six. General admission prices are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students. Admission is free on the first Sunday each month from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and information and tickets are available online and by calling 1-866-849-7056.
