Thousands came out to the Philadelphia Museum of Art this morning for the 10th annual Gary Papa Father’s Day Prostate Run and Walk.
The 5K benefits Prostate Health International, which conducts prostate cancer research, provides free screenings and raises awareness about the importance of early detection.
The event, previously titled “Run 4 Your Life,” was renamed after organization spokesman and local media personality Gary Papa passed away from the disease in 2009. It has grown from about 300 participants in its inaugural year to the estimated 5,000 people who took part this morning.
The Run and Walk raised nearly $250,000 this year alone.
