On Saturday, Oct. 29, Public Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY), Wills Eye Hospital, Eagles Charitable Foundation and Essilor Vision Foundation teamed up to give free vision screenings and glasses to uninsured and underinsured children. Over 1,000 children were in attendance.
Donna Cooper, Executive Director of Public Citizens for Children and Youth, said: 450 volunteers donated their time for Sight Day — including local doctors that provided screenings and exams.
“This event is so important because thousands of children are identified locally by school nurses with possible problems and those students don’t get follow-up exams. Give Kids Sight Day bridges that gap. We are going to help them secure insurance if they don’t have it, and if they do have vision insurance, we will help them become more familiar with how to access their benefits.”
