The aged high-rise housing project towers of the Blumberg-Sharswood complex came toppling down this weekend.
The Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA) has begunbuilding new, low-rise housing projects in the area and demolished the towers to reuse that land.
PHA president and CEO Kelvin Jeremiah told Metro that part of the motive behind the demolition was because the old-fashioned,high-rise towers were a magnet for criminal activity and a source of blight in the neighborhood.
