PSPCA removes 15 dogs from Holmesburg home

Animal cruelty prevention officers removed 17 animals living in “filthy conditions” from a Northeast Philly home on Saturday.

The PSPCA removed 17 animals from a home on the 7900 block of Marsden Street in Holmesburg — including 15small dogs and 2 cats.

“Our Humane Law Enforcement Officers work to protect animals not simply from acts of blatant cruelty, but additionally from situations of neglect where their health and well-being may be at risk,”Jerry Buckley, CEO of the PSPCA, said in a statement. “The Pennsylvania SPCA is the only animal welfare organization in the region equipped to handle cases involving such a large numbers of animals, as evidenced in this case.”

PSPCAofficers obtained a warrant to enter the home after Philly police tipped them off that several animals were living in “unsanitary conditions” in the home, the PSPCA said.

The investigation is ongoing, but the owner is expected to face cruelty charges.

All animals will be treated at the PSPCA’s Erie Avenue shelter and may be surrendered by the owner depending on the outcome of the investigation.
