Playing the Field: Roddy White invades HBO, LeBron James loves Castro

Many had been clamoring for the Jets to be featured on HBO’s wildly entertaining reality football show “Hard Knocks.” But why would the network waste its efforts when the lead attraction, Tim Tebow, has the same trash-talk vocabulary as a first-grader? I guess the cameras could have followed him to Sunday services.

Anyway, HBO has tabbed the Atlanta Falcons, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Awesome. While Matt Ryan seems rather boring, ditto head coach Mike Smith, the breakout star is sure to be mercurial receiver Roddy White.

White is the Jimmy Hart, the Mouth of the South for you younger readers out there. He’s called out Roger Goodell on Twitter, tells cornerbacks they can’t guard him and has punked Saints fans. This past Thursday, White took on homosexuals. When someone tweeted him whether he would rather lead the league in stats or win a Super Bowl, white wrote back, “would u rather be gay or straight come on u know that answer.”

So is that a vote for stats or Super Bowl, Roddy?

Actually, let’s pass the baton to Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski …

Bobby Knight is motivational author

Yes, the former Indiana hoops coach is channeling his inner Matt Foley and penning a book to help America’s youth. The working title is, “The Power of Negative Thinking.”

“I’ve always thought the things that we look upon negatively are extremely important,” Knight told the South Bend Tribune. “Like the word ‘no.’ I think the word ‘no’ is the most important word in the English language. I think people learning to say no keep themselves out of a lot more trouble than those that don’t.”

Like, “No, don’t wake me up, Digger Phelps!” Like, “No, I didn’t just slap that kid!”

“No” matter what’s in this gem, we’ll be on Amazon on its release date. We just hope that Knight gets John Calipari to write the foreword.

LeBron James, D-Wade love Fidel Castro

It’s almost too easy to easy to mock LeBron James and Dwyane Wade these days. What did your grandpa used to say, like taking candy from a baby? No, it’s easier than that. How about like taking text messages from a former Arkansas coach.

LeBron and D-Wade were spotted wearing Fidel Castro T-shirts by the famous blog Terez Owens.

Sike. That is a Photoshopped picture. But now that we have your attention … would that really shock anyone? It makes sense, after all. LeBron basically dictated his way out of Cleveland. However, in the wake of the Ozzie Guillen suspension, showing support for Fidel Castro isn’t as hip as it used to be. Especially not in Miami.

Guillen said his comments were lost in translation. We could certainly see the Heat duo using a similar argument, saying their T-shirt order was misinterpreted by the silk screener.

Speaking of LeBron, Kenyon Martin recently gave him the old George Costanza treatment. He confessed that LeBron’s receding hairline (or what we’ll call the reverse Jeremy Piven) is a source of comedic relief around the NBA.
