Police: Kensington teen shot during webcam chat on life support (UPDATE)

Authorities are investigating a shooting in the Kensington section of Philadelphia that killed an 18-year-old overnight.

The teen’s body was found on the front steps of a home on the 1900 block of East Cumberland Street at 1:15 a.m. Police said this morning that preliminary reports indicate he shot himself in the head and is hospitalized at Temple University Hospital with no brain activity.

Investigators incorrectly said the teen had died this morning, but now say he remains on life support. His identity has not yet been released.

According to multiple media reports, the man was inside the front room of the house chatting on a webcam with two brothers, aged 22 and 13, when he was shot with a 9 millimeter handgun.

Police said they have not yet confirmed that information, but they believe the shooting was accidental.
