Police Make Arrest in Slaying of 16-year-old

Police have arrested a man in the death of a 16-year-old slain in Fairhill Saturday night.

John Perez, 29, of the 4300 block of Glendale Street, allegedly shot and killed Jesus Rivera, 16, at a North Philadelphia block party.

Police say his motive was retaliation for an argument that occurred earlier in the night, though it is not clear if the disagreement was between Perez and Rivera.

Perez is charged with homicide and related offenses. He has a lengthy criminal history, was previously imprisoned for drug charges and was due in court in January to be tried on drug and weapons offenses from an incident in May 2010.
