Police name suspect believed to be connected to fatal Haverford shooting

Philadelphia police are seeking help from the public to identify a man that they believe is responsible for a shooting in Philadelphia, law enforcement officials said, and who may be connected to a fatal shooting in Haverford that killed a 24-year-old man.

Police are seeking help finding Derrick Hershal Rollins, whom police believe was involved in a shooting on Saturday, July 29, along 77th Street. According to police, at about 5:10 p.m. that day, two people told police they saw a man behind their home and, when they exchanged words with the individual, the man police believe was Hershal Rollins produced a firearm and shot at them.

Law enforcement officials said that no one was injured in the shooting, but the pair’s car was struck by bullets.

According to police, this shooting has connections to the murder of John Le, of Narberth, that occurred about an hour later in Haverford. According to the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office, at about 6:10 p.m. that same day, Le was shot and killed along the 2300 block of Haverford Road.

Photos of the man suspected in that shooting were captured by a surveillance camera as he fled the scene, and the shooter’s car was reportedly discovered along the 5100 block of Locust Street on Tuesday morning.

There is still an active reward of $5,000 being offered by the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office for information that leads to the capture and conviction of the person responsible for Le’s murder.

Philadelphia police are asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of Derrick Hershal Rollins to contact the Southwest Detective Division at 215-686-3183, or call 911.
