Police to beef up Penn’s Landing patrols after teen ruckus

Philadelphia police intend to increase the number of officers patrolling the Penn’s Landing area following a disturbance Monday night caused by large groups of young people.

Teenagers began congregating at around 7 p.m. in Old City and along the riverfront, according to authorities.

At around 8:15 p.m., police received calls about gunshots on the 100 block of S. Front Street. No one appeared to be hit, but officers did find two spent cartridge casings, investigators said.

In addition, three cars were damaged by teens jumping on windshields and officials broke up multiple fights, according to police. The crowds dissipated by 11 p.m.

Authorities plan to boost officer visibility near Penn’s Landing for the “foreseeable future,” the PPD said in a statement.

“Although large crowds are not expected tonight, the public can expect to see an increased police presence in the areas,” a police spokesperson added Tuesday morning.
