Police recovered nearly 60 stolen bicycles Friday while removing dogs from a home in North Philadelphia suspected to be involved in dog fighting, according to the Pennsylvania SPCA.
The house on the 2200 block of West Lehigh Avenue was under surveillance for some time as a suspected “staging area” for dog fights after an informant tipped off the Humane Law Enforcement Unit, the PSPCA said.
While removing a total of 11 dogs – one puppy and 10 adults – along with other dog fight training paraphernalia, such as a treadmill, injectable drugs, computer data and paperwork, officers found a trove of stolen bicycles in two basement rooms.
A man was arrested and a second person of interest has been identified, the PSPCA said. The bicycles were seized as evidence by Philadelphia police.
